Léon bakst as fashion designer -- he combines elements of 1912 styles (when a trend towards straight narrow skirts was displacing the brief hobble-skirt fad) with elements of the old empire silhouette -- posed against modern new-fangled technological gadgetry. The draping of the bottom hems of the upper and lower skirts is influenced by ancient greek women's attire, while the little ankle-vent would have been considered moderately racy and intriguingly unusual by the standards of 1912, while not being actually indecent for indoors wear. Date: 1912. Dimensions: 45,2 x 28,4 cm. Medium: pencil, silver, watercolor. Collection: Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. Madrid.. Bakst fantasy on modern costume Atalanta 1912
