A states yacht visiting the dutch fleet
in the left-middle distance, a weather quarter view of a states yacht with flags at the masthead and peak close-hauled on the port tack. A ship is passing her close to leeward, firing a salute. On the extreme left, a port bow view of a ship at anchor with flag at the fore and pendant at the main. On the right, a ship at anchor seen from before the port beam; she is lying almost head to wind with her courses and spritsail loosed and aback or shaking; a galjoot at her port quarter. Land is depicted in the right distance. This is a pencil and wash drawing by the younger, signed ‘w. V. Vj. ’ it is inscribed below the states yacht and also below the ship to leeward of her with a ‘k’; and on the back ‘dis 2 stucke groeter voor aen. ’ (? these two ships larger in the foreground. )
