A ship driving ashore in a gale RMG PV5345, circa 1700

A ship driving ashore in a gale this rapid though relatively detailed compositional storm scene is unusual for its vertical (portrait) format. On the left is the fore part of a ship, viewed from before the starboard beam, apparently running into rocks in the right foreground. Another vessel, in the right middle distance, appears to be in a similarly perilous state as it attempts to claw off the land. A ship driving ashore in a gale. Date: circa 1700. Dimensions: Primary support: 189 mm x 129 mm; Mount: 479 mm x 315 mm. Collection: Fine art.
