Major-general lord cathcart stands stiffly in profile to the left. His features are blunt and ugly. He wears court dress with a military cast, heavily gold laced, and a long pigtail. His right hand rests on the head of a gold-headed cane. A figured carpet and bare wall complete the design. 11 june 1800
