A lugger at anchor
van de velde may have drawn this rapid and concise study of a lugger (a small english fishing boat rigged with two lugsails) from life. While living in england he had easy access to the thames and the thames estuary, and is reported to have been taken out in all weathers by a thames waterman, ‘going a skoying’, in order to make studies from nature. The drawing is unsigned. A lugger at anchor. Date: circa 1700. Dimensions: Sheet: 133 x 207 mm; Mount: 404 mm x 557 mm. Collection: Fine art.
