A group of ten fishing people
the figure study shows a group of fishermen and women with baskets in calm conversation. The unsigned drawing’s stylistic resemblance to drawings of similar subjects from the milford collection, now at the nmm, suggest a tentative attribution to willem van de velde, the elder, and a date of about 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground.
