A group of ten fishing people RMG PV5189, circa 1655

A group of ten fishing people the figure study shows a group of fishermen and women with baskets in calm conversation. The unsigned drawing’s stylistic resemblance to drawings of similar subjects from the milford collection, now at the nmm, suggest a tentative attribution to willem van de velde, the elder, and a date of about 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground. A group of ten fishing people. Date: circa 1655. Dimensions: Primary support: 117 mm x 169 mm; Mount: 316 mm x 480 mm. Collection: Fine art.
