A group of eight fishing people this figure study shows a group of fishing people possibly negotiating a catch. Left of the centre two baskets are stacked on top of each other. On the far left, a man bends down to pick up a pair of seaboots. To the right, with a group of four men, a woman is carrying a flat basket on her head. The unsigned drawing’s stylistic resemblance to drawings of similar subjects from the milford collection, now nmm, suggest a tentative attribution to willem van de velde, the elder, and a date of about 1655.
