A group of six fishing people RMG PV5191, circa 1655

A group of six fishing people this figure study shows men and women in various poses carrying and holding a variety of baskets, yokes and sacks. The unsigned drawing’s stylistic resemblance to drawings of similar subjects from the milford collection, now at the nmm, suggest a tentative attribution to willem van de velde, the elder, and a date of about 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground. A group of six fishing people. Date: circa 1655. Dimensions: Primary support: 121 mm x 197 mm; Mount: 315 mm x 477 mm. Collection: Fine art.
