[The effects of Falsehood], Isaac Cruikshank, 1794

Eight pairs of persons in conversation, arranged as in bmsat 8541 above. The boasts of a soldier, a traveller, of a dissenting minister (who says, "i preaches and i knows things, i prophesys and all things comes as i says! the times are dismall and somthing must come to pass") are believed; so are the false vows or threats of lovers (three). The others are a fashionable attorney or banker who says (to his pupil's mother): "i dont get a farthing by the articles, - pon honor!", and an artisan who tells his wife (who has a spinning-wheel) a tall story.
