In 1655 the dutch east india company (voc) sent a delegation to peking to plead for trade privileges from the chinese emperor. The delegation was accompanied by johan nieuhof who wrote down everything that happened during the journey. After his return to the netherlands nieuhoff published his richly illustrated travel journal. This map of the coast of india and ceylon was included in the travel journal. Object Type: map.
