Alarico II, rey godo, Jusepe Leonardo, circa 1635

The canvas represents alaric ii († 507), who was king of the visigoths between 484 and 507. He succeeded his father, king eurich, and was in turn succeeded by his son, king gesaleico. King alaric ii appears wearing a beard, dressed in a tunic and mantle and holding a scroll. Alaric ii died in the battle of vouillé, fought in 507, which pitted the visigoths against the troops of the frankish king clovis i. The defeat of the visigoths in this battle marked the disappearance of the kingdom of toulouse, as the gallic possessions, except narbonne, were lost. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1635. Dimensions: height: 205 cm (80.7 in); width: 118 cm (46.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Museo del Prado. Alarico rey godo
