Portrait of an african man' — oil on panel depicting a standing man, half-length, turned three-quarters to the left on a blue-green background. He wears a red beret with a pilgrim's badge from our lady of hal (halle), near brussels. He has a moustache and a beard that ends in two points. He also wears a white shirt without a collar, under a red jerkin and a short black coat, the tabard and white goatskin gloves. In his right hand he holds the richly worked hilt of his sword; the left hand is at his side. On his left hip a richly embroidered bag. Jan jansz mostaert] (c. 1474-1552/53), mechelen, c. 1525-1530.
