Unlike other books and prints, toyokuni and sanba included non-celebrity actors and extras. Even though all kabuki actors were male, the dressing rooms for those playing male and female roles were on two separate floors of the theater. The third floor was reserved for actors playing male roles, while the onnagata (male actors playing female roles) dressed and rehearsed on the second floor. "
