Artist Drawing a Portrait of a Man, Albrecht Dürer

A draughtsman uses a 'vetri piani' or glass table device. A glass plate in a wooden window is placed upright between the draughtsman and his model. With a grease pen, the outline of the image is drawn on the glass. This drawing is then transferred to paper. The instrument was recommended by leonardo da vinci for drawing landscapes.
