Munkácsy was still studying in munich when he was commissioned by viktor szokoly to create drawings from the history of the freedom struggle for a planned album. The honvédalbum was published in 1868 in pest, edited by viktor szokoly and published by gusztáv emich. In addition to works by mihály munkácsy, the album contains drawings by sándor wágner, sándor litzenmayer, gyula benczúr, jános jankó and pál szinyey. The woodcuts were made in károly rusz's workshop in pest. Woodcuts of two of munkácsy's drawings are included, entitled honvéd cheerleaders and returning with prisoners. Date: 1870.
