iconographic description:
a meal takes place in a rustic interior. This is a brotherhood meal as indicated by the signs attached to the walls. Half a dozen guests are already seated on chairs with straw seats. A new arrival has just returned, the host gets up to welcome him. All the characters are adorned with the heads of horned animals. Around the table sit a goat, a ram, a buffalo, a moose, an ibex and a rhino. The newcomer is a unicorn and the one who welcomes him is a deer. Are these horns the abanage of a group of cuckolds? excerpt from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "each of the guests told their story in turn, as did the seven kings of the cabaret of venice. [. . . ] our animals have the appearance of taking their troubles patiently [. . . ] they would happily repeat after the fabulist: when we ignore it, it is not nothing; when you know it, it’s a small thing. ”
