Patient: francis manuel. According to rowley (2022), the view captures an exploratory and intervention surgery for a young portuguese sailor's diseased fibula. Although manuel was townsend's patient, warren was the lead surgeon who prosecuted the operation on july 3, 1847. Warren's case notes for the surgery are published in volume 2 of his biography.
