Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1657-1658. Swedish horsemen around captain manheimer, a german mercenary hired by the swedish army, the evil bodil ebbesdatter, better known as kulsoen, her husband tam and another gønge. The horsemen hunted a sleigh with the two gønger believing it was svend svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, but it was actually a diversion. The hunt however came to an end when the sleigh finally stopped as the horse collapsed of exhaustion. The gønger now has to talk their way out of the situation which is further complicated as kulsoen and tam recognize each other. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
