Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-03-30) letter no. 240 (1944-04-10) next letter (1944-04-12) envelope: front back text [we climbed the so-called] devil's wall and had a magnificent view. It was as if in deep peace, everything was so wonderfully beautiful and quiet. I thanked our lord from the bottom of my heart that i was still able to experience all of this and i was so happy. Despite all this beauty, i kept thinking about our beloved vienna - how i would have loved to be with you! i had also applied for vacation but the course is not allowed to go over the holidays. Well, let's hope for later! today, monday, the weather has unfortunately changed completely - it's raining cats and dogs. But even this cannot spoil my good mood. Thank god i'm not on air raid watch. I almost forgot, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the packet of cigarettes and lace, it came at just the right time! how did you spend the holidays? were you on duty? hopefully not. Now, my mother, i want to close my "easter message". Heartfelt greetings and kisses from your hansl. Date: 10 April 1944.
