the steel passenger steamer premier was built in 1887 by union iron works of san francisco. She had dimensions of 200 x 42 x 12. 9 and was powered by a 1,300-horsepower reciprocating single-screw engine giving a service speed of 13. 5 knots. With accommodations for 300 day passengers and stateroom accommodations for 79, she was the largest passenger carrier of the canadian pacific railway, which purchased her in 1901.
