lully, barely twelve years old, employed in mademoiselle's kitchens, had just composed the tune au clair de la lune, which he had all the cooks sing in chorus every day; mademoiselle, pleasantly surprised by this harmony, wanted to have the young scullion musician heard by lambert, music master of the king's chamber, who, immediately recognizing lully's happy disposition, obtained that he would be admitted to the number of mademoiselle's pages, and himself wanted, through his talent, to contribute to developing the genius of this artist who had become so famous.
