The body of the young woman (constance mayer) who has just killed herself is discovered by her companion (pierre-paul prud'hon) who falls into the arms of one of the two men accompanying her; in the left part of the scene, an oil on canvas depicting christ on the cross at whose foot the virgin stands is being executed.
