Josef ullmann - from the biography
13. 6. 1870 – †31. 5. 1922, czech painter, pupil of j. Mařák. Author of whimsical landscapes (birch grove). In the late period, he leaned towards impressionism (sunset in the fields, podjaří). He was born on 13/06/1870 in nekmíř in the pilsen region and died on 31/05/1922 in vinohrady. He mainly painted landscapes in vinohrady, then went to study in munich. Later, he became a student of the prague academy of fine arts under prof. Pirner and j. Mařák. He initially exhibited large-scale landscapes in the rudolfinum, later smaller landscapes that capture the mood of the atmosphere. In his works, he depicts forest silences according to the model of mařák. Only in the years 1918 to 1929 did he create landscapes in the manner of the impressionists (technique of color spots). The peak period of his activity occurs at the end of the world war, when in particular his views of the wider region are created. Date: 30 November 1899.
