This painting, said to be showing madame vigier and her son, hung in the grand salon in the château de grand-vaux situated just outside paris and is depicted in a watercolor by paul thomas that was reproduced by j. Buorguignon, "le château de grand-vaux", in l'illustration, no. 4523, september 11, 1929, p. 529. The château belonged to pierre vigier (1760-1817) who, after the revolution, became the director of the société des bains publics in paris and amassed a small fortune. With his new found wealth, he was able to purchase the château and the surrounding lands. The painting is signed and dated lower left j. Odevaere/1805 and inscribed on the harp eb.
