Stone bull's head rhyton archmus Heraklion

Stone bull's head rhyton archmus Heraklion

The stone bull's head rhyton. Left side of head and horns are restored. Masterpiece of minoan art, worked with a great precision to render the natural features of the real animal. The snout is outlined with an inlay of white seashell, and the right eye is inlaid with rock crystal, with rim and iris of red jasper. Should have been used for libations. Found at knossos, crete, greece (little palace), late bronze age, 1550 - 1500 bce. ).
