The faroes (also known as the faroe islands; faroese: føroyar, danish: færøerne) are a group of volcanic islands in the north atlantic ocean, roughly halfway between norway, scotland and iceland, inhabited since the middle ages. Its name means sheep islands in hungarian. Date: 1877.
