By elliot & fry john ruskin (1819-1900) was one of the leading art and social critics of nineteenth century. He wrote on subjects including geology, architecture, ornithology, literature, botany and political economy. In 1869, ruskin became the first slade professor of fine art at the university of oxford, where he established the ruskin school of drawing.
