posted by ingrid m. H. Evers on november 19, 2007 - 02:13. Location: market. The statue is a creation of charles vos (1888-1954) and stands in a fountain basin by architect j. Brouwers. The mooswief = mother's wife, vegetable woman symbolizes a folk type, namely the former vegetable seller on the market. The statue was unveiled on saturday, february 27, 1954, the day before shrove tuesday (carnival), by the then city prince. Since then, a large mooswief doll has been hung on the vrijthof every year, as a symbol of the carnival. Date: 27 February 1954.
