Viii. 41. Dear parents! i am sending you my warmest greetings again and thank you for all the letters, cards and packages! i am always so happy when i get mail from you. I am doing quite well now. I am healthy. We are still marching hard. Yesterday we crossed the 1000 km border. That means we marched a thousand kilometers criss-cross through “beloved” russia. It certainly wasn’t easy, but we are proud of it now. How far will we go? in any case, we will march until the bolsheviks are finished. We will sing the marching song. As i already wrote [we had an attack on august 12th. ]. Date: 18 August 1941.
