reprint, in reverse view, of the portrait of alexandre dumas by deveria from 1831, with addition of the legion of honor received by dumas in 1837. Historical commentary:
the first version of this portrait would be that announced by the bibliographie de la france of may 14, 1831, no. 416: "alex. Dumas, portrait, by devéria. Lithograph print by motte, in paris", often dated "around 1832". This reply (inverted) is announced by the bibliographie de la france of february 17, 1838, under number 184: "alexandre dumas. [. . . ] in paris, at aubert's". This portrait was then published in the "gallery of the press, literature and fine arts", by charles philpon and louis huart, first series, 3rd delivery, in 1839.
