Sawa Tarouzaemon, Henri Pronk, 1863

Sawa was one of the japanese naval officers who came to the netherlands in 1862 to follow the construction of the steamship kaiyo-maru, which was being built by order of the japanese government. In the netherlands, they took courses in navigation techniques and visited enterprises and institutions. Sawa held the rank of second officer in the japanese navy. Object Type: photograph.
