Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1943-08-16) letter no. 178 (1943-08-18) next letter (1943-08-19) east, august 18, 1943. My beloved mother! greetings and kisses from the bottom of my heart. I have now arrived at my regiment. My unit was deployed to a different sector and now has to go to a different unit. So my field post number will also change. As soon as i have the new field post number, i will write to you straight away. Otherwise i am fine and healthy. How often do i think about the lovely vacation. How wonderful it was, it's all like a dream. Now i've been away from home for over a week. Time goes by so quickly, if only the war would pass as quickly! well, that too must come to an end sometime! what's new in my beloved city of vienna? you'll probably go back to work hard, just be careful that nothing happens to you. Don't worry too much about me, everything will be fine. The weather is very bad here, it's raining and freezing cold. How is it at home? can we go to the "gänsehäufel"?! yes, that would be nice. Well, that time will come again one day. I'm sitting here in an earthen bunker and writing, it's raining outside, it's 3 p. M. I've got enough to eat. Date: 18 August 1943.
