iconographic description:
liber amicorum album by actress rachel; contains ten drawings among which we find the signatures of alexis-nicolas noël (1792-1871), at the bottom of a tomb project for rachel (whose name is written in the same characters as those chosen for the hair medallion or the cover of the album), of jean-joseph bellel (1816-1898) for a gallant party in pencil and ink, by justin ouvrié (1806-1879), for a mountainous landscape animated by a church on the edge of a lake in 1840. Texts by various authors, including jules janin (1804-1874), constant perrier, playwright, count louis édouard bouët-willaumez (1808-1871) known for his explorations of the senegal river and the gulf of guinea. A note from alexandre dumas (1802-1870) requesting “two gallery places” for the next day “despite rachel or even because of rachel”. Following are placed some prints and a black and white photograph subsequent to the creation of the album showing the portrait of rachel by edmond-aimé-florentin geffroy (1804-1895) and a postcard of the portrait of the actress by jean-léon gérôme (1824-1904) published by the carnavalet museum. Finally, after a few empty pages, six notes in rachel's handwriting, including one addressed to jules janin, were pasted on the last pages of the album. Acquisition method: manual donation
