Quixote being cared for by the innkeeper's wife and daughter; in a tall, homely room, a pained quixote lies on his front, the innkeeper's wife squinting as she applies a plaster to his back, quixote looking longingly at her beautiful daughter as she stands at left, holding a jar; the hunchback servant girl, maritornes, holds up a candle and looks leeringly over at sancho, who is sceptical; proposed illustration to 'don quixote' (unpublished).
