Ceiling painting in the porcelain chamber, caputh castle, ceiling decorations with heavily stuccoed acanthus leaves. The crowned personification of europe, enthroned on clouds, with the attributes of power, wealth and the arts at its feet, depicts europe as the most outstanding continent. It takes up the image idea in cesare ripa's "iconologia overo descrittione di diverse imagini cauate dall'antichità, & di propria inuentione". The african woman next to her points to brandenburg's colonial possessions in ghana and holds a large porcelain lidded pot with her right arm. Both have one breast bare. To their left and right are porcelain vessels, a cornucopia of fruit and a wreath of flowers. On a book lie an electoral hat and sceptre, the insignia of power of the electorate of brandenburg, in front of which are a square, compass, painter's palette and brush. Behind the female main figure are depicted war equipment: pike, lance and flag. To the right of the porcelain are two (almost) naked putti. The black child pours the white boy a drink from a red jug. The porcelain vessels, which are reproduced in great detail, refer to the original function of the room. In the corners are a total of four large, illusionistically painted blue and white faience vases. The side panels are filled with allegories of the seasons. Object Type: ceiling painting.
