Satire on soldiers. A tall thin private soldier scowls as he carries a short fat officer on his shoulders across a stream; behind him a sturdy woman carries a young officer. Behind them are more soldiers, including a young boy with his drum slung on his back. A country boy looks on with interest at the edge of the stream, while two girls lean on a broken fence smiling; in the foreground a bitch carries her puppy across in her mouth.
