the scene takes place in a street, in front of the door of a pleasure establishment. On the left, a young man with the head of a rabbit is dragged against his will by the arm by a massive woman with a boar's face and a gaping neckline. Behind her, near the door, stands a woman with the face of an owl and wearing an extravagant bonnet. Excerpt from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "the high school student has not yet returned, and he is already thinking about his next outing. He makes a plan and writes out the menu of his future amusements. While walking down the street, he casts a look of envy and regret at the nocturnal splendors of this paris from which he will be separated for an eternal month [. . . ] there, at the entrance to this dark alley, did he not see a shadow passing, did he not hear a woman's voice calling him?
