Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1943-11-09) letter no. 203 (1943-11-11) next letter (1943-11-20) [otherwise everything goes on as usual here, as is usual with the soldiers in the trenches]. We had to pass on our radio. So we live cut off from the world; the newspapers are mostly one or two weeks old. But what we read is not particularly pleasant, so we do without them. The best things are always the mail and receiving food! maybe some will arrive tomorrow morning; there is always coffee at 4 a. M. So, as you can see, i am still doing well on the whole and am healthy and cheerful. My sense of humor is still the same, because “an old viennese never goes under”! today i had a wonderful dream about you and dad at home. When i woke up, i was surprised not to be lying in a nice bed under the "duchent" [down duvet (austrian)]. Yesterday was already 4 months since i left home, and on november 4th i was back in "paradise" for another year. Date: 11 November 1943.
