historical commentary:
this vignette representing the actor laridon illustrates the first serial of pistolet, text by jules janin taken from scenes from the private and public lives of animals (annie renonciat, j. J. Grandville, paris, 1985, p. 223). It seems that the drawings in the first volume date from 1841 and those in the second volume from 1842 (see exhibition catalog "grandville dessins originauc", 1986-1987).
