Various philippine animals and plants, detail from carta hydrographica y chorographica de las islas filipinas (1734). Captions in spanish: cañas muy largas y gruesas de que sehacen andamios, casas - very long and thick reeds (bamboo) that are made into scaffolding and huts bongas con que se hace el buyo de que usa todo genero de gentes mascado lo como tabaco - bongas (visayan, fruits) from which buyo (tagalog, betel or areca nut) is made that all kinds of people chew like tobacco (tagalog, nganga). Murcielago muy grande con cabeza como perro - very large bat (flying fox) with a dog-like head. Cocos, de que saca agua, vino, aciete, tuba - coconuts, the source of water, wine, oil and toddy. Other captions: papaya - papaya tree and fruits nanka - lanka, jackfruit tree and fruits machin blanco - white monkey (tagalog, matsing). Date: 1734.
