The object in the foreground on which the protagonist's hand rests, mistaken for a stone, had led to the recognition of the man as the biblical hero samson, forced to turn a millstone after his capture. The reflectographic investigations and the last restoration, however, allow us to see this object as an upside-down string musical instrument and to identify the painting with the "three great singing heads" listed as being by giorgione in gabriele vendramin's inventory. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: 1508. Dimensions: height: 86 cm (33.8 in) ; width: 70 cm (27.5 in). Collection: Private collection. (Venice) Il Concerto - Giorgione
