Johann andré (1741–799) composer, music publisher in offenbach am main. His first operetta, "the potter" (1773), inspired goethe to write his singspiel "erwin and elmire"; he entrusted andré with the musical setting. The work was an extraordinary success, first in frankfurt and later in berlin, where andré worked as conductor at the döbbelin theater from 1777 to 1784. Goethe visited the composer on may 17, 1778 during his only stay in the prussian residence; this personal meeting also marked the end of his relationship with andré. Date: before 1818.
