description:
large imari style porcelain dish with polychrome decoration on the cover. In the large central medallion there is a landscape with pine trees, rocks, two birds in flight and a pavilion. Around the medallion three chinese lions (karashishi) alternate three other smaller medallions decorated with a circular gold peony motif on a cobalt blue background. Other peonies drawn on a red background surround the medallions. This dish is one of the quality utensils sometimes mass-produced for export whose decorations are often in the style inspired by china, as shown by this motif, in particular the rapprochement of chinese lions and peonies.
