The photograph in question shows young jan matejko (1838 -1893) standing at the curtain in the photographic atelier against the background of a blurred, artificial landscape. Matejko is dressed in a dark cloak and holds a hat in his hands. A look directed straight ahead, from behind the round glasses, attracts the attention of the onlookers. A black and white, sepia-tinted photographic print was pasted on a company cardboard box with a decorative label on the reverse and a dry stamp in the lower right corner. This information clearly points to walery rzewuski's photography studio in krakow at ul. Kopernika 29 as the place where the photo was taken. Based on the data on the activities of the plant, as well as jan matejko's age, it can be assumed that it was made before 1863. It is one of the oldest photographs showing the young artist preserved in the collection of the national museum in krakow, in the jan matejko house. (agnieszka zagrajek). Date: circa 1863. Dimensions: height: 9 cm (3.5 in); width: 5.5 cm (2.1 in). Medium: photograph. Collection: National Museum in Kraków. Walery Rzewuski - Jan Matejko przy kotarze - MNK IX-5809 (353129)
