A rearing horse, ridden by a mamluk rider, is the main figure. On the base, small painted scenes taking place in a desert landscape. Historical commentary: a porcelain manufacturer, established in paris, then in avon, near fontainebleau, jacob-petit is famous for his ornamental objects, bottles, night lights, inkwells, clocks, whose baroque exuberance is nourished by borrowings from french or german styles of the 18th century. The figure of the mamluk horseman is inspired by a work by debucourt, "the retreat of the mameluk", engraved in 1803 according to carle vernet. The profusion of gold which highlights the rocaille contours of the ornaments, the exuberance of the ornaments and the shimmer of the colors with bold accords reflect the verve and invention of the most illustrious french porcelain maker of the 1830s-1860s.
