View from the east of the Long Bridge, the colonnades and the southeastern part of the city palace, Johann Friedrich Nagel, circa 1790

The etching originally comes from the 24-part "collection of some beautiful views of potsdam [. . ]" published by jean morino in berlin around 1790. The eighth sheet of the series shows the view from today's humboldtstrasse with the havel colonnades to the long bridge from the time of the great elector. The drawbridge with guarded gatehouse was built in 1664 and existed until the first quarter of the 19th century. Frederick william ii, accompanied by two soldiers, is about to cross the bridge. The potsdam museum collection contains two versions of the sheet: the one published in berlin around 1790 and this version painted over with opaque paint, created around the same time. Date: circa 1790. Dimensions: height: 22 cm (8.6 in); width: 35.2 cm (13.8 in). Medium: etching print. Collection: Potsdam Museum. Nagel, Johann Friedrich - Potsdamer Stadtschloss - Potsdam Museum
