Inscription - on the front, under the engraving, printed in black ink: "far from the disastrous fort, from the famous city, / whose love in ten years, razed the foundations: / ceste isle in less time, ceases to be useless, / and shows the beautiful plan of a hundred large buildings. Stamp - on the front, bottom left, in pink ink: "ville / de / paris" (cf. Lugt suppl. 2012c) inventory number - on the back, bottom right, in pencil: "g 22545" iconographic description: urban landscape. Point of île saint-louis and île louviers, the facades of the hôtel de bretonvilliers, the wooden bridge of la tournelle, the apse of notre-dame, the hôtel-dieu and the archbishopric with its tower. Historical commentary: with the agreement of the royal council in 1614, christophe marie, entrepreneur and engineer, and his associates poulletier and le regrattier undertook to build two bridges (marie and de la tournelle) and to develop two islets (notre-dame and aux vaches) to form the current île saint-louis. In return for the filling of a medieval canal and the construction of the quays, they obtained the right to subdivide the land. The work was completed around 1655. We see here a facade of the hôtel de bretonvilliers.
