iconographic description:
two men with animal heads are in a living room. The seated figure is a lion; he reads the newspaper, comfortably seated with his dog on his lap. The second character is a parrot which combs his mane; he carries hairdresser's instruments (scissors, etc. ) in his pocket. Excerpt from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "in the good times, when the gallant mercury reigned aristocratically in the kingdom of the press, the barber was the daily newspaper, and each pharmacy the laboratory where the news came to be prepared which from there spread throughout the city; the barber [. . . ] was the news item man. "
