According to olivia voisin, these costume studies could be related to one of the comédie-française's plays le maire du palais by ancelot (1823), sigismond de bourgogne by viennet (1825), le siège de paris by arlincourt (1826), julien dans les gaules by étienne de jouy (1827) or blanche d’aquitaine by hippolyte bis (1827) (voisin, olivia, "romantic painters as costumiers: the stage as pictorial battlefield".
