The work represents the relatives and disciples of jesus christ lamenting next to his corpse. In the foreground, at the foot of the cross, on the right side is the virgin mary with her dead son in her arms, next to her are mary magdalene and saint john the evangelist, occupying the left side of the composition. The virgin, with a sorrowful expression, wears a red tunic, a blue cloak and a veil wraps her head. On a white cloth a dead christ appears, naked, covered by a cloth of modesty.
